Sophomore Mateo Chavez is a returning varsity swimmer. He decided to sacrifice a summer of caddying to train with his teammates and coaches. Mateo trained from May until late July in Columbus, and he soon saw his hard work pay off. He earned the title of 16th in the nation, when he swam the 50 meter freestyle in just 22.86 seconds. We are excited to see what Mateo accomplishes in his next three years as an Ohio State University varsity athlete!
The other Scholar of the Summer nominees included senior Stephen Tonnis, junior Rachel Berger and
senior Sean Lorton. Stephen Tonnis was offered a full-time position at Synchrony, the company he has interned with during the past two summers. Rachel successfully completed United States Air Force basic training and tech school. Sean received and completed an internship with the Montgomery County prosecutors office at their child protection unit.
